| DANCE MARATHON 2006!!!!!
Jess Nguyen (aka J-gun) and Vivian Han (aka Chicken Littizzle) embarked
on 30 hours of dancing for the Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention
Initiative. Here's a flyer we sent out to all those who donated
and helped us raise $1200+!!! THANK YOU

Block 1: Dress as your favorite celebrity
We were Joaquin Phoenix and John Travolta from Ladder 49.
Okay truth? We just wanted to be firefighters cuz we already had
the hats

paris roommates reunite - me and becky!

me and jess getting our groove on the dance floor. you can tell it's the beginning by the energy and hands in the air

we knew the people who were high up in DM...famous person #1 - Krystle Goh. doesn't she look so professional?

Block 2: Around the world - dress cultural
I'm in Athens Olympics gear and Jess is in Prague

the ball that we waited for a long time to get so that we could take this picture!

VISITORS!!! the roommates of 909 - brandi + famous DM people (Pooja, Lindsey and Heather!)

Block 3: futuristic
trash bags and duct tape, DUH!! people may mistake us for mugatu's derelicte fashion show...

showing off our awesome fashion sense...is jessica naked?! (haha the answer is NO )

Block 4: Guilty Pleasures
we got lazy...we were supposed to wear togas, but at 4 in the morning, wearing costumes isn't the first thing on your mind

two seconds after the previous picture...how we really felt

a few minutes after that...

Block 5: Stuck on you - dress like your partner
I only wore this for the picture, but the idea was to wear the pink
towel robe that jessica wears for half the day, everyday...with my hair
in my face gotta love jess!!

we ended up just doing one part of our plan...we velcroed ourselves together - won us a best costume prize!!

jess during the performances...i can't believe she fell asleep even with the drumline

Block 6: school pride
RAAWWRRRRR we so stroooong

another parisian reunion - roberto...who is nicely showered and clean, and i am...well...let's not get into that...

Block 6 - 50s/60s
please...shoot us...this was TERRIBLE

a visit from the third troublemaker who lives at 2006 sherman...who brought us taco bell. now that's TRUE LOVE

Block 7 - 70s/80s...
notice how the outfits aren't changing...but just wait until NEXT block...
team thug stars with pooja, master of bhangra dancing. according to jess, she FEELS the rhythm. that's hot

Block 9 - godfathers and gangsters!!!!
TEAM THUG STARS REPRESENT!
dang, we SOOO gangsta hahahhaha

yea, not so gangsta in this one...more fobby...
4/5 of 2006 sherman - we miss you minji!

now i'm back from the bartending session. i'm a little red in the
face, got a little buzz, am really tired, but now have a new mini
cocktail shaker and 3 mini beers. drinks anyone?!
okay let's round out DM pics with the last block.
Block 10: Armani Exchange Beach Party
yes, A/X made and donated ALL the dancer t-shirts!! (and they
included a free A/X mini bottle of water...oh yea, tastes totally like
A/X )
it's been 30 hours...and a LOT went on during those 30 hours:
- PR girl who we wanted to kick in the throat
- sore (in jess' case, dying) feet
- deliriousness
- going to the bathroom a LOT just to take a break
- having no friends, then making new ones
- fighting for snacks from the food committee
- getting hook-ups from all the people high up in DM
- bad moods and grouchiness
and at the end of it all...we still love each other

i was a little out of it...trying hard to keep my eyes open

my crazy partner who came alive in the last block

yay for friends! this would be when i leaned in for the picture with a
little too much energy and my big head ran into jess' and broke her
sunglasses... oops!!

and the GRAND TOTAL we raised in money and products...

HEEEEELLL YEAAA!!!!
a little celebration...for the money AND the fact that the dancing was going to end within a 1/2 hour

who's happy?! thanks to kisa for the great action shots

picture with the group who helped us through the last round of those 30 loooong hours!!

who knows what song we're singing...maybe I Want it That Way?!?!?

aaawwwww yeaaaa, get down girl go head get down

one last action shot of the last few minutes of dancing. YAY!!!!!

Lessons I've Learned:
- dancing for 30 hours was a LOT harder this time around. i was really tired, sore, and BITCHY
- it was definitely all for a good cause, but i'm not sure if i could do it again - maybe just raise the money...
- if you're going to do DM, raise over $1000!!! the perks of being first to get food, showers, etc. is TOTALLY worth it
- make sure you're dancing with someone you like and make sure you know
how to deal with each other when you get cranky. me and jess were
great til the end because we be soulmates and we know how each other
works
- i'm glad i'm a senior and don't have the option of doing this again (originally jess' thoughts but i absolutely agree)
- i do not like 50s/60s music...at least not 3 hours worth
- i also do not like salsa, mambo, eurotrash and bhangra for 3 hours...
- i still LOOOOVE my teeny bopper music. jess and i have a love
for awesomely bad music...our taste in music is terrible...but you
CAN'T have a dance party without britney, christina, n'sync or
bsb. DUUUUHH
lastly, shout out to my roomie/partner/soulmate, jess nguyen who i had
an awesome time with. especially when she interacted with the PR
girl. that was great. she can kiss my ass

About DM:
Dance Marathon, currently
in its 32nd year at Northwestern, is one of the world's largest
student-run philanthropies. Dance Marathon, or DM as the students call it, is a thirty-hour
dance-a-thon. Over 600 students begin
raising money in the fall with their efforts culminating in March when they
celebrate their hard work by dancing for 30 hours. (Obviously, Jess and I are a LITTLE behind!)
About our
Beneficiaries:
Each year, Dance Marathon selects a primary and secondary beneficiary
to receive the money collected after months of fundraising and 30 hours of
dancing. The primary beneficiary for 2006
is the Pediatric AIDS Chicago Prevention Initiative, an organization committed
to ending the spread of pediatric AIDS through early detection and antiviral
treatment. Our secondary beneficiary, an
organization which has been our secondary beneficiary for over 10 years, is the
Evanston Community Foundation (ECF). ECF
funds organizations and initiatives that improve the quality of life in Evanston. ECF will receive 10% of the funds raised this
year.
